Hello and welcome to the Township of Chester’s new website. This site is designed to help our residents and people wondering about the township. You can find facts, schedules, township contact information and upcoming events.
Chester Township is one of the first municipal districts erected after William Penn’s first visit to the Province in 1682. At that time it included what later became the City of Chester, Upland, Aston and Brookhaven.
The township has a proud history. Our fire department will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary in 2021. Originally named Feltonville Hose and Chemical, the name was changed to Chester Township Fire Department in 2003.
The part of town known as Feltonville got its name from the Felton family whose mansion had tunnels under it to aid in the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. Toby Farms was the Crozer family farm which was a fox hunting club and became the Wolf farm which was the Wolf family’s summer home. Toby was one of the horses on the farm. The Delaware County Housing Authority homes are built on the old Fair Grounds.
The township is home to four industrial parks providing thousands of job opportunities with room for more development. We are proud to soon be known as the Hollywood of the East with the opening of Sun Center Studios and hopefully making Chester Township a destination with a new hotel and theme park.
Township services have always been a high priority in Chester Township. We pride ourselves in maintaining relationships with our residents and businesses. The diversity on Council ensures that all township residents are represented.
The goal of Chester Township’s council has always been to keep taxes down and services up from our highway department to our police and fire departments to the township office staff. With the help of our residents, we can fulfill our goal of a better Chester Township.
